Rock Out At The Mid Atlantic Percussion Society Competition

Rock out to music, excitement and artistry as 24 of the finest indoor percussion ensembles from 3 states compete at the Mid Atlantic Percussion Society Competition at Unionville High School on Saturday, March 10, 201 from 4pm to 10pm.

Performing groups will use a broad array of percussion instruments including drums, cymbals, marimbas and sophisticated electronic effects to present their dramatic shows.  They are judged on marching and concert criteria with judges evaluating each group’s creativity, expression, performance quality and technical excellence.

The event is hosted by Unionville High School, whose Indoor Drum Line will perform their award-winning 2018 show, “We All Fall Down” in exhibition. Also performing in exhibition will be Imperial Dynasty Percussion of Wilmington, DE, an indoor percussion ensemble that has been a Winter Guard International World Finalist for many years.

The units facing off in competition will be from the following high schools and independent guard groups:  Upper Dublin, Conestoga Valley, Phoenixville, Highland Regional, Williamstown, Upper Darby, Owen J. Roberts, Parkland, Avon Grove, Methacton, Cheltenham, Quakertown, Coatesville, Middletown, North Penn, Ridley, Hopewell Valley Central, Southern Regional, Old Bridge, Cab Calloway, Downingtown, and Spring Ford.

musical, The King & I.

A moving and radiant tale of East meets West, The King & I will be brought to life for the community with an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft.

It is 1862 when newly widowed Anna Leonowens and her son, Louis, sail from their native

England for Bangkok, Siam (now Thailand). Anna set her sights on a new adventure and

accepted a position as the schoolteacher for the King of Siam’s many children and wives.

The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by rulers in the West, so he asks for Anna’s

assistance to change his image, if not his ways. Anna and the King struggle to find common

ground. While both keep a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the

King eventually teach each other about understanding, respect, and love that can transcend

the greatest of differences.

Mandatory UHS Softball Meeting Tomorrow, 1/31/18

There will be a MANDATORY sign-up meeting for anyone interested in UHS Softball this spring. The meeting will be held in the UHS Cafeteria on Wednesday, 1/31/18, at 2:50pm and should last approximately 15 minutes. UHS Community Scholarship Fund

For over 50 years, the Unionville-Chadds Ford Community Scholarship Fund has provided scholarship aid to outstanding graduating seniors at Unionville High School.

The Community Scholarship is a grant of a stated amount of money collected annually from the school community by open solicitation. Its purpose is to award the worthy student who wishes to continue his/her education following graduation from Unionville High School. The grant is for the first year of post-secondary work only and will be applied toward college costs (i.e., tuition, room and board). As many grants will be made annually as the treasury of the Community Scholarship can support. Please consider contributing to the Unionville-Chadds Ford Community Scholarship Fund.Thanks to you overwhelming generosity last year we were fortunate to present 8 graduating seniors each with a $1,000 scholarship award.

UCFSD - MORE Foundation Shoe Re-Use Program

UCFSD Shoe Re-Use Program

The Green Initiatives Committee of the U-CF Education Foundation, with the support of the district, has launched a district-wide program to promote sustainability by collecting your used sneakers and fitness shoes. This program touches many facets of sustainability.  It keeps shoes out of the landfill and promotes re-use, as well as develops an environmentally and economically sustainable industry for developing villages.

1. Collected shoes from our district will be shipped to Runners Village, Ghana. There they are sold, and the proceeds go to setting up tree farms (fruit trees, trees used for buildings, etc.) in the village. The locals are trained to maintain them, creating a perpetual source of income.

2. The entire program is funded by the proceeds from the sale of the shoes.

3. The unusable ones (about 20%) go to Nike Grind, where they are ground up and used on playgrounds and other purposes.

4. The MORE Foundation, who executes this program, expects to take in about 300K pairs of shoes this year, helping 10 villages.

5. There is a box in either the gym or main lobby of every school in the district. Please drop off your old sneakers - any size, any condition.

Many people ask, “what happens to all the shoes?” The shoes are sold in major metro areas to vendors who in turn create jobs and help improve the quality of life in cities. The proceeds from the sale of the shoes provides training and tools to the poorest rural farmers. So many shoes sit in dark closets, forgotten and never worn, and then end up in landfills. Reusing these shoes further promotes the global efforts to reuse and recycle.

The UHS neighborhood book collection is this Saturday, January 20th.

Have books on your curb by 9am and students will be by to pick them up and deliver to the high school.

2018 Unionville High School Used Book Sale - Annual Neighborhood Book Collection

On Saturday January 20^th, we will kick off the 2018 Unionville High School Used Book Sale with our annual neighborhood book collection.  

We are in need of student drivers for the collection and we also need both students and adults to help set-up, unload cars, and sort and price the books.

This is a community event, so even if you do not have a student in the High School, you are very welcome to come and help as it takes many hands and hours to prepare for the sale.  We will have volunteer shifts up until the day of the sale – we have hours during the day, or in the evening if daytime hours are inconvenient.  We’ve set aside hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and certain Saturdays for volunteer help. No prior experience is necessary!  This is a great way to meet new people, connect with friends, or a way to spend time while waiting for a practice vs driving home and back in the cold! Every little bit of help is vital to the success of the sale!

The 2018 Used Book Sale will take place on Friday, February 23rd, and Saturday, February 24^th.  We will need many, many volunteers on those days as well for the set up and actual sale.

SCREENAGERS - Growing up in the Digital Age

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Unionville MiniThon Committee’s Holiday Babysitting Night

Unionville High School’s MiniThon committee raises money for Four Diamonds, an organization that helps conquer childhood cancer. The committee is holding a night of Holiday fun for elementary school children!

Where: Unionville High School, 750 Unionville Road, Kennett Square PA 19348 (we will meet inside the gym entrance).

When: December 16th, 5-10 p.m.

What to expect: The night will be filled with fun, games in the school gym, crafts, movies, and pizza. Please let us know if your child has any allergies we should be aware of. The children will be supervised by high school students and club advisor and teacher, Faith Dilworth.

Food: Pizza will be served to children at 6 o’clock, and snacks will be provided. Please let us know if your child has any allergies we should be aware of.

Cost: $25 for  1 child

         $40 for 2 children

         $50 for 3+ children

UHS Marching Band Championships

The Unionville HS Marching Band ended their competitive season on Sunday, November 13th at the Cavalcade of Bands Yankee Open division championships in Allentown PA. The band had an amazing performance and moved up to 2nd place with a score of 95.3. They also received the award for high percussion. This year, there were 16 bands in the Yankee Division in total, with 9 in the upper level Open division and 7 in the A division.
